CAREN records patient responses to feedback using 3D motion systems and a dual-belt instrumented treadmill mounted on a 6-degree-of-freedom suspension base. The full immersive, dynamic and interactive virtual reality system provides synchronized visual flow and real-time feedback at any baseline performance level.

Current Research:

CAREN is an ideal system for advanced research protocols to study balance and gait disorders. Patient environments can be manipulated to study specific responses to pathology using dual tasks that are physically, visually or cognitively challenging. The treadmill and overhead platform can be used to position the walking surface in any direction, such as to simulate tripping, slipping, walking uphill or downhill, or pushing sideways.
CAREN supports both fundamental and advanced research into walking/movement, balance, and human performance.
Any parameter of the system and the person in it can be influenced and recorded. This will quickly provide insight into the most effective clinical treatment protocols and allow new treatment options to be explored.
CAREN contains several pre-programmed VR (virtual reality) environments, and also allows users to create their own environments for specific target groups or special research tasks.

VR (virtual reality) settings can vary from flat projections to semi-cylindrical immersive screens and full domes. After installation, Motek provides training in the use of both the available clinical protocols and the D-Flow application development software.
